Job Description
Innovation and Technical Expertise:
- Lead, organize and oversee new projects and trials at vendor and factory partner locations. Provide technical guidance and expertise for the smooth execution and transfer of projects for commercial applications.
- Lead research and development efforts to enhance mill capabilities within the region to deliver Local to Local initiative & redevelopment of materials to meet long term material sourcing strategies.
- Attend material shows as needed to research mill capabilities and source new material types.
- Partner in materials innovation projects managed by HQ teams providing on the ground support to ensure successful implementation.
- Collaboration and Development:
- Collaborate with material design, material development, trim development & tech services team to ensure successful material commercialization and production are achieved.
- Offer on-the-ground support to mitigate and solve production challenges, including troubleshooting on-site when problems occur.
- Perform vendor performance analysis and review to ensure adherence to quality and delivery standards.
- Create a collaborative and strategic partnership with materials design & development team to manage mill relationships and expectations.
- Provide on-the-ground support for sourcing new types of trims and materials.
- In partnership with Asia based sourcing team, oversee vendor agreements and licenses to ensure compliance and adherence to contractual obligations.
Sustainability
- Serve as the key contact for Asia based sustainability team for development-related inquiries within the Asia region.
- Manages Textile Exchange and other sustainability requirements and certificates.
- Collaborate with the Sustainability team to ensure material and trim development alignment with long-term roadmap.
- Stay informed about relevant regulations and industry standards related to materials sourcing and usage. Ensure compliance with environmental and sustainability guidelines.
- Integrate sustainability goals into every aspect of materials development and execution.
Qualifications
- BS in Textile or related field; may be substitute with relevant experience
- 6+ years' work experience in textile manufacturing, development, or design
- Comprehensive understanding of the textile manufacturing processes
- Knowledge of appropriate textile testing methods, interpretation and application of results.
- Knowledge of high-performance textiles and the functional aspects of performance apparel.
- Knowledge of Textile Exchange, SAC Higg Index, and material sustainability attributes
- Working knowledge of global fabric sourcing trends and strategy
- Knowledge and/or experience in apparel or equipment development processes from inspiration to production including the technical and manufacturing side of product development.
- Familiar with the management of color, including lab dips
- Working knowledge of textile chemistry and sustainable chemistry
- Computer proficiency: Word, Excel, PDM system, Illustrator, Textile Design Software, Outlook, etc.
- Solid English language skills (verbal & written)
- Builds capacity of individuals and teams through effective employee development, involvement, communication, and supervision efforts.
- Fluent in Mandarin (spoken and written)

- Ability to travel domestically and internationally
