About The Client
Our client is a leading FMCG manufacturer with global presence. They are currently hiring a Group General Counsel to oversee their Hong Kong & China operations. You will manage and coordinate all legal and compliance matters - responsible for providing legal and strategic advice to the company on a variety of corporate and transactional matters including contracts, commercial disputes/litigation, country/industry regulatory requirements etc. You will be expected to personally handle as much of the company's legal work as in practical and closely oversee outside counsel on matters that require additional expertise. The General Counsel will work in conjunction with, and supervise, the rest of the legal team in the region to provide legal counsel and support to senior management and coleagues throughout the company and its affiliates and subsidiaries.
About The Role
Reporting into the Chief Financial Officer, you will:
- Provide advice and counsel to and develop creative solutions for issues raised by the company's executive staff and other employees on legal, business and compliance matters.
- Draft or review legal and other documents including contracts, policies, procedures, internal protocols, and litigation-related documents
- Serve as liaison to and manage and direct all activies of outside counsel, including litigation
- Draft, review, analyse, structure and negotiate a broad range of agreements including thos involving customers, vendors, confidentiality, employment and other corporate agreements for domestic and international operations
- Provide training and make presentations to company personnel regarding legal issues, company policies and practices
Requirements
- A Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school, a background in business, finance or accounting is a plus
- PQE12-15+ of legal experience working as a lawyer in a commercial law firm, including a minimum of 5 years in-house experience overseeing Regional / Global / China operations. A preferable background will also include substantial time spent working as a lawyer in FMCG / industrial manufacturing industry
- Pragmatic judgment, particularly in determining the significance of legal matters and effectively measuring and balancing legal and business risks
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Effective organisational skills in order to prioritise and manage multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously
- Hand-on work ethic with willingness to assume heavy workload to meet timing and project needs
- Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced business environment and follow-up on pending issues timely
- High degree of personal integrity
- Superior oral and written communications skills in English and Mandarin, including comfort and confidence interacting with excutives and external stakeholders
