About The Client
Our client is a leading Retail & FMCG business with strong APAC and China presence. As part of business needs, they are currently hiring a Group General Counsel to take lead of the legal function for the region.
About The Role
Reporting into the CEO, you will:
- Provide strategic guidance and oversight necessary to protect intellectual property, mitigate and manage risk to customers and the business
- Counsel business management to ensure compliance with all laws, and otherwise provide professional/quality legal support and advice to all areas of the business
- Make commercially focused decisions based on legal risks and outcomes
- Review, draft and negotiate all contracts - vendors, customers, partners; to ensure commercial and legal risks are addressed
- Oversight of compliance, risk/insurance, contracts, litigation
- Provide guidance on HR related issues
- Day to day supervision of the legal department, interact effectively with all key stakeholders both internally and externally
Requirements
- Law degree from an accredited law school, with minimum PQE20+ providing legal or compliance support and/or guidance, or similar experience showing commercial prowess, extensive contract and IP experience, and the ability to function as a working General Counsel
- In-house legal experience from multinational retail / FMCG businesses
- Prior experience overseeing legal matters for APAC or PRC region
- Experience managing an in-house legal department and supervisions of lawyers and other professional staff
- Knowledge of facts, law and consequences to business
- Understand and implement general principles of corporate law and corporate compliance issues
- Ability to manage outside counsel
- Administrative skills and good internpersonal and communciations skills
- High proficiency in both English and Mandarin
